Star Wars may only have been a movie, but from the day it first hit theaters back in 1977, just like its main character, it was destined to become something far greater! It created a whole new genre of big budget sci-fi epics and would go on to be imitated countless times. It changed the lives of young movie goers and groomed a new generation of future film makers and special effects artists. I, for one, was very heavily influenced as a kid when I saw Star Wars for the first time. It was one of my first encounters with special effects and creature design. To this day, it has a strong impact on my designs and creatures that we make here at the studio. What stated out as a gamble by a movie studio on a big budget space adventure, Star Wars is one of the only films in pop culture history that still has a lasting effect on viewers today. How many other movies can say that some 36 years later still have toys, video games, cartoons, t shirt, pajamas... you name it, still being made and sold to millions of fans each year!? Star Wars forever changed the way movies are made and viewed and THAT is why on May the 4th, we set aside a day to celebrate and enjoy these timeless classics! ... but not the prequels... they mostly suck!
